KFC Unveils New Smoky Chipotle Crispy Fried Chicken (Press Release)

New recipe provides perfect blend of flavors with just the right kick.

-- Chain Leader, 5/28/2008 7:53:00 AM

LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 28 /PRNewswire/ -- In 1940, Colonel Harland Sanders revolutionized fried chicken by introducing his now famous Original Recipe(R). Today, more than 65 years later, KFC is adding just its third fried chicken flavor to the menu -- Smoky Chipotle Crispy. The new flavor joins Colonel Sanders' Original Recipe, featuring a secret blend of 11 herbs and spices, as well as Extra Crispy(TM), which was introduced more than two decades ago.

"We've worked tirelessly to develop this new flavor," said James O'Reilly, chief marketing officer for KFC. "The Colonel truly made history with his Original Recipe and Extra Crispy has been a popular part of our menu for more than two decades. We don't take fried chicken flavor introductions lightly at KFC and we took our time to painstakingly perfect this new recipe. We're certain America will agree that it was worth the wait."

A Secret Slow-Smoked Recipe

While Original Recipe and Extra Crispy continue to have their dedicated fans, KFC's newest kitchen creation is aimed at consumers who like to experience new flavors and savor the taste. "The new recipe receives its signature flavor from a secret recipe of slow-smoked chipotle peppers and other spices," said Doug Hasselo, Chief Food Innovation Officer at KFC.

"Our new Smoky Chipotle Crispy is designed to be the perfect combination of robust flavors with just the right kick," Hasselo added. "We're confident Colonel Sanders would have approved this new secret recipe. It truly is finger lickin' good."

KFC's new Smoky Chipotle Crispy chicken is currently available in a bucket or as a plated meal for a limited time only. Visit http://www.KFC.com for specific details about the new Smoky Chipotle Crispy chicken and additional information on KFC.
